The Problem
The nose is perhaps the most defining feature of the face. A nose that is not well-proportioned or does not fit can detract significantly from an otherwise beautiful face. On the other hand, a nose may appear perfect, but may not function well, creating difficulty with breathing. When you meet with Dr. Ondik, he will address both the cosmetic and functional aspects of your nose. Because he has extensive experience in nasal surgery, patients can be confident that their nose will both look and function beautifully.
The Procedure
Nose surgery (also known as rhinoplasty) is done through one tiny visible incision at the base of the nose just above the lip on the columella. The remainder of the incisions are all made inside the nose. The entire nasal skeleton can be shaped through these well-hidden incisions. This includes changing the appearance of the nose (e.g., elevating or lowering the nasal tip, removing a hump or a bump, etc.) and improving breathing by straightening the septum or strengthening the cartilages.
Recovery
During the first week, patients will have several small sutures at the base of the nose. Patients will also have soft, silastic nasal splints on the inside of the nose. After one week, the sutures and the nasal splints will be removed in the office. The nose will be most swollen for the first one to two weeks. After this the most of the swelling will disappear, but mild swelling will persist for at least one month.
